Welcome to Don Carlos Stamps and Coins

Continuing the tradition of 3 generations of philatelists and numismatics, Don Carlos Stamps and Coins is carrying the decades long tradition into the 21st century.
Don Carlos Stamp and Coins is dedicated to the two men that taught me to love this hobby. It all started in Cuba in the 1940s when my grandfather Miguel Alvarez de la Noval, an accomplished military man, started his quest in the collecting world. An avid stamp collector started like we all do, assembling his stamp collection and developing his love to our hobby. In 1959 when the Cuban Revolution started, he was forced to leave it all behind including his stamps. With just the clothes on his back and barely escaping with his life, was able to leave Cuba hidden in the pantry of a Spanish cargo ship courtesy of the captain. To make a long story short, he ended up in Puerto Rico. There he revived his love for our hobby again and with the help of his friends in 1961, started the first philatelic store to exist in Puerto Rico, Don Carlos Stamps, where he established a long list of collector friends and a thriving business. Here is where I learned the love for stamps and coins. At about the age of 5, I started my first stock book with stamps that interested me, the usual kid loves like military, animals, vehicles etc. At the age of 6, I knew how to use a catalog and could reach the top of the counter at the store, so on the weekends I would spend time with him at the store and help with customers, look up stamps in the catalog, knew where every stock book was and was the store little helper, a memory that I will always remember and keep with me.
The second influence in my life was my father Carlos Alberto Verdura, an M.I.T. graduate in mechanical engineering and a numismatist. My father also ended up in Puerto Rico after leaving Cuba. In Cuba he worked with Carrier Air Conditioning designing and installing air conditioning in the major hotels and casinos in Havana. Carrier offered him an opportunity in Puerto Rico, which he accepted and became the owner of Applied Air Conditioning, a Carrier distributor. His love for coins was second to none, having himself been an avid coin collector in Cuba, he had to leave it all behind, hidden in an undisclosed location in hopes of returning and recuperating his stashed coins. We all know he never had the chance, but restarted his love for coins and put together an impressive collection with the help of my grandfather. His love for the hobby is the reason I love it so much, as we know, it is very catchy.
As a third generation collector and with the hopes of keeping the tradition going, I have launched Don Carlos Stamps and Coins. With the sight in mind, I have a deep love for stamps and coins and spend a lot of my time going through material and picking out some of my interests to add to my collections. There is too much material going through my hands to keep it all so I have created a place to obtain the pieces you need to fill those hard places in your collection. Like my grandfather before me, I pledge to give you the best possible service at a reasonable price and at a shipping time second to none. As you can imagine, my love for the hobby is three fold. I have been selling on Ebay since March 15th, 1998 with 100% positive feedback. Although Don Carlos Stamps and Coins is a new venture, I bring my fathers and grandfathers honesty, dedication and experience to the site. I thank you for your support in advance, and look forward to making a long list of collector friends and clients, just like my grandfather did since 1961.
